Aurora Cellars Wines Get Recognized by Michigan UnCorked Magazine

Date

Three of Aurora Cellars’ wines have been recognized by Ellen Landis, a certified wine sommelier and professional wine judge, in the latest version of Michigan UnCorked. In her article, “Between The Vines”, Landis reviews our Leora, 2017 Cabernet Franc, and 2020 Dry Riesling.

Leora

The bright citrus notes of the sparkling

When describing Leora, Landis says the “energizing nose of fresh squeezed lemon and lime puts you in a celebratory mood.” The bright citrus notes of the sparkling Pinot Grigio meld with the flavors of flaky apple pastry, lemongrass, and a dash of spice.

While drinking this delicious bubbly, you will be able to experience a delicate stream of bubbles and acidity that stays balanced and lively through the perky finish. When pairing this wine with a meal, Landis recommends a smoked salmon salad.

When producing the bubbly, Head Winemaker for Aurora Cellars Drew Perry lightly pressed the Pinot Grigio to extract the cleanest juice we could. The fruit used in the wine was grown with the intention of producing a bright, fresh sparkling wine for the consumer. Since this Pinot Grigio used in our Leora is the first we pick every year, we are able to ensure the wine will retain its varietal character and moderate level of alcohol.

2017 Cabernet Franc

Landis describes our 2017 Cabernet Franc as having lovely floral

Landis describes our 2017 Cabernet Franc as having lovely floral and earthy notes that stay on the nose to make way for dark fruit at the core. The black plums, earthiness, black raspberries, a thread of graphite, spiced chocolate, and a touch of herbs of the award-winning wine “tantalize the palate”, explains Landis.

She goes on to explain that the well-integrated tannins and the nice level of acidity balances the fruit through the long finish. She recommends pairing this red wine with veal scallopini.

The 2017 Cabernet Franc was awarded Judge’s Selection during the 2021 TEXSOM International Wine Competition. When producing this delicious red, Perry used hints of plum and blackberry with fresh herbs to bring a lovely example of Cabernet Franc.

2020 Dry Riesling

When describing Leora, Landis says the

If you are a fan of dry, white wines, our 2020 Dry Riesling is for you. Landis depicts this award-winning wine as “sleek and vivacious, it hits all marks of a dry Riesling.” She says the racy acids frame the delightfully dry wine as notes of green apple, stone fruit, minerality, and a striking burst of fresh squeezed lime “enliven the palate from first sip through the finish.”

A pairing to compliment this delicious white would be a crab Louie salad as recommended by Landis. The explosive aromas of white peach and the round palate and lush texture led the 2020 Dry Riesling to be awarded the Jefferson Cup Award during the 2021 Jefferson Cup Invitational.
