Fall 2022 Winemaker’s Selections

Date

It is time for the members of our Proprietor and Somm to customize the Fall 2022 Wine Club shipment. To help them, Head Winemaker Drew Perry has preselected a collection, which includes two award winners and a member favorite.

Brut Rose

Brut Rose awarded a gold medal in San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

This delicious bubbly was recently awarded a gold medal during the 2022 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. It was also rated 91 points by Wine Enthusiasts in 2021.

The Brut Rose has aromatics of candied cherries. It is produced using the Charmat method so we are able to get the most out of the fruit before it is bottled. The dry finish pairs beautifully with salmon, seared tuna or even pork tenderloin.

Our Wine Club Manager recommends pairing a glass of our award-winning Brut Rose with Martha Stewart’s Seared Scallops with Bacon.

Grüner Veltliner

A favorite among members, this dryA favorite among members, this dry, fruit forward white has received multiple awards. Recently, it was awarded Best in Class at the 2022 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. It also received the Jefferson Cup Award at the 2021 Jefferson Cup Invitational.

This delicate variety was produced in a new-world cool climate style to help accentuate more of its hidden aromatics of gooseberry and prickly pear. Your palate will experience strong grapefruit flavors with a mineral complex to bring out the aromatics.

The acid profile works well, but will never overwhelm, an intricate food pairing. Grüner Veltliner is crisp and a perfect palate cleanser for richly flavored foods. While it pairs well with classic Austrian dishes, it has been known to complement spicy Asian dishes perfectly. If you ask our Wine Club Manager what she would pair with this member’s favorite, she would say a Gingery Pork Meatball Sub from Prevention Magazine.

Cabernet Franc

This elegant member of our red wine family was named Judge’s

This elegant member of our red wine family was named Judge’s Selection at the 2021 TEXSOM International Wine Competition. Cabernet Franc is Michigan’s biggest and boldest red wine that is produced consistently among wineries – especially Aurora Cellars.

Head Winemaker Drew Perry explains the unique notes and green edge of this variety give it depth and dimension in every sip. Consumers will experience a lovely example of Cabernet Franc thanks to the hints of plum and blackberry that are followed by fresh herbs.

While it pairs well with just about everything, we recommend complementing it with a good game meat like roasted or grilled lamb, beef or veal. If you’re looking for a hearty meal to enjoy with a glass of this elegant wine, try Half-Baked Harvest’s Persian inspired Herb and Beef Stew with Rice, as recommended by our Wine Club Manager.
