Aurora Cellars is gearing up for a new season and with this comes several new vintages and releases to our tasting room. This coming season, you will see some varieties the Aurora Cellars tasting room hasn’t seen before and a couple that will be returning after a short hiatus.
Released in April will be the 2022 Sauvignon Blanc, 2022 Medium Sweet Gewürztraminer, and the 2022 Pinot Noir Rosé.
2022 Sauvignon Blanc
If you like a bright and crisp white wine, our 2022 Sauvignon Blanc will be just your thing. This wine will bring bright, citrus notes to the palate and minerality to the nose.
This variety was grown in a vineyard that is filled with several exciting varieties that will help shape Michigan’s future. The vineyard sits high up on a plateau overlooking the Manitou Islands. Our vineyard and winemaking teams are able to keep up with their most progressive techniques for this vineyard thanks to the layout and design of it. The location and shape of the land also allows even the most difficult varieties to fully develop regardless of the vintage’s challenges.
Once this variety was harvested, our winemaking team took a gamble and went for the maximization of the variety’s characters. To accomplish this, the fruit was crushed and soaked in the skins for an extended period of time.
Sauvignon Blanc is a variety that is the perfect companion to herb-driven sauces over chicken, tofu, or fish. You also can’t go wrong with the herb-driven Asian flavors that you can find in Thai or Vietnamese cuisine.
This wine is a Wine Club Exclusive item. You can become a member of either our Somm or Proprietor Wine Clubs. You can sign up for either one in our tasting room or online for free. Benefits of being a wine club member include discounts, invites to exclusive events and parties, access to new releases and free wine tasting for you and guests.
2022 Medium Sweet Gewürztraminer
This beautiful variety has subtle notes of rose petal on the nose. The palate is filled with flavors of lush lychee fruit due to the 5 hours cold skin soak during harvest. On the finish, you will experience a light spice to round out the whirlwind palate adventure that Gewürztraminer provides.
Gewürztraminer pairs well with dishes that are fowl-rich. This includes meals with turkey, duck, or Foie Gras. If you’re looking to enjoy a glass of Gewürztraminer with your breakfast, a magnificent pairing would be egg dishes like a quiche or omelet.
2022 Pinot Noir Rosé
Rosé is thought to be a spring or summer wine, however, it is a versatile wine that tastes just as good in the cold months. Rosé wines can vary greatly because they can be produced from a wide variety of red grapes but can also be blends of white grapes and red grapes.
The fruit used to produce this wine was monitored daily up until harvest so we could make sure it was harvested when the phenolics were just right. When processing the fruit, our winemaking team cold soaked the juice with half the skins overnight before gently pressing it the next day.
When enjoying this wine, it is best chilled and can be paired with a variety of cuisine from around the world.
