With the holidays quickly approaching, it’s time to start thinking about food, gathering, and libations! For those tasked with bringing an appetizer and wine to a party gathering, we asked our wine club manager, Dawn, to share an app and wine pairing that she’ll be serving this holiday season.

 

Spicy Cherry Hummus

 

For those who like things spicy and sweet, this Spicy Cherry Hummus will do the trick! Out-of-town guests will also love being treated to this cherry-flavored dip. Dawn recommends pairing this humus with our 2018 Medium Sweet Riesling.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups canned chickpeas, drained
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/3 cup tahini
  • 1/4 cup chipotle chiles in adobo sauce, more to taste
  • 1/3 cup dried tart cherries, soaked a few minutes in hot water
  • 2 tablespoons liquid from dried cherries, more as needed for constancy

Directions:

 

  1. Place all the ingredients in a food processor and process until the hummus is smooth.
  2. Taste for seasoning and serve chilled or at room temperature with tortilla chips, crisps, or veggies like carrots, cucumbers, and sweet peppers.

Note: Leftovers are great as a sandwich spread, grilled cheese addition, or in a wrap with feta and chopped veggies.
